シドニー中心街 Hyde Park隣にあるカトリック様式の大聖堂。中に入ると明るさも控えめ、美しいアーチ状の天井とステンドグラスがとても美しく目を惹きます。訪問当日、教会内でミニ演奏会が催されていました。財布に入っていた小銭を気持ち寄付して後にしました。

대주교 존 폴딩의 의뢰로 19세기 건축가 윌리엄 워델이 설계한 고딕 양식의 대성당으로, 성모 마리아에게 헌정하기 위해 지어졌다. 여러 차례의 화재로 인해 고딕 양식의 모습을 갖추기까지 약 100년 이상이 걸렸으며, 2,000년 6월이 되어서야 비로소 처음 설계대로 완성되었다.
