Anıtkabir in Ankara

Anıtkabir (Turks voor Herdenkingstombe) is de Turkse naam voor het mausoleum van Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, de eerste president van de Republiek Turkije. Het mausoleum is gelegen in Ankara en is in 1941 ontworpen door Emin Onat en Orhan Arda. De tweede president van de Republiek Turkije, Ismet Inönü, ligt hier ook begraven.

Na zijn dood lag Atatürk 15 jaar opgebaard in het Etnografisch museum, waarna hij op 10 november 1953 (15 jaar na zijn dood) werd bijgezet in het net afgemaakte Anıtkabir.

Entrance is free, but security service is very serious about this place, had to leave my backpack at guardroom. A lot of respect to the founder of Turkey

Great place. Free entrance. We payed only 4 lira for voice guide. The museum is beautiful. Worth visiting the place of the greatest leader in the world.
